Reconstruction After Mohs Surgery
Mohs micrographic surgery (named after the inventor of the technique, Dr. Frederic E. Mohs) is a procedure designed to remove skin cancers (especially certain types and recurrent cancers) performed by a qualified dermatologist who removes tissues layer by layer, examining each specimen during the procedure.
Mohs procedures are very effective in eradicating skin cancers and minimizing risk of recurrence, but frequently result in defects that cannot be closed easily. Plastic surgeons specialize in repairing these defects using variety of techniques (like skin grafts an skin flaps), that allow wound closure with the least amount of scarring and deformity. Dr. Majewski has performed numerous cases to repair Mohs defects (involving nose, cheeks, lips, eyelids, forehead, scalp and other areas). Depending on the size and anatomic location of the defect and chosen repair technique, as well as the patient's health status, either an office procedure or an outpatient surgery will be offered.
During your consultation, Dr. Majewski will present you with your treatment options and together, you'll decide a treatment plan that's right for you.
